The Best T Shirt Design Software & Some Free Options Too

When it comes to t shirt design, the software you use is extremely important because that’s what makes everything laid out properly for the person who is printing your shirts. If you’re new to this and aren’t sure what t shirt design software would be best for what you’re trying to achieve then please keep reading, all of your questions will be answered. Plus, maybe the program you’re already using and paid hundreds of dollars for has a totally free option that you just don’t know about yet. I guess you’ll just have to find out ;-)

First of all, let me clarify something before I continue. This post will not tell you how to design t-shirts, I did, however, cover that topic in another post, How To Properly Design T Shirts(will be published soon!). These posts kind of go hand in hand so that might actually be a good article for you to read after this one.

If you prefer to work with vectors, meaning artwork that can be scaled to any size without compromising quality, then I highly suggest Adobe Illustrator, it is by far the best t shirt design software for vector based work. A lot of people like to work with vectors because of being able to make it any size, but it is personal preference. Any screen printer who knows what they’re doing will accept these files for print, if they don’t then you should find another printer.

Low on cash? Fear not! Inkscape is a totally 100% free open source program that does everything you need to design t shirts in vector format. In addition, it works on all operating systems and is fairly well known as a reputable alternative to the expensive Adobe products. There is also another program called Draw Plus, but from what I know(which isn’t much) it has less features, only runs on Windows and basically there are just better options available. If I were you I would go with Inkscape but it’s always best to do research on your own.t shirt design software

Some people like working in Adobe Photoshop more, another program I highly suggest for t shirt design, if you can afford it. The concept is the same, but art work created in Photoshop is pixel based and therefore cannot be made larger without becoming blurry, pixelated and low quality. So if you want to try this program, make sure to always work at the size the shirt will be printed at because you can’t make it bigger later.

There’s a free version of this too! Though there are several free t shirt design softwares that can do the above mentioned, I always suggest Gimp because it’s the most well known and always works, plus you can use it on any platform and can get the same results as Photoshop.

All in all, I suppose I don’t know which t shirt design software is truly the best, but I can attest that all of these options are viable and very useful if you are looking for free t shirt design software to test out your skills or are just trying to save money.

Have fun designing t shirts and as always, if you have any questions feel free to leave me a comment. =) Oh yea, and don’t forget to check out my other article on how to properly design t shirts!
